Un regalito para mi / A present for me!

Pues sí, ¡nunca me toca nada! y de repente, un día, me tocó. Diana celebró su blog-aniversario sorteando un conjunto de telas y ¡gané yo!
Ayer las recogimos en correos y al llegar a casa, ¡que gustazo! en una "bolsita perfecta", que es, efectivamente, perfecta, venían empaquetadas por colores este montón de telas preciosas. Gracias, Diana, me alegraste el día.

Well, I never win anything, and suddenly, one day, I won! Diana celebrated her blog-anniversary and gave away a bunch of fabrics that I won. 
Yesterday we went to the post office and I brought home all these beauties, wrapped in a "perfect pouch" that is, indeed, perfect. Thanks, Diana, you made my day :))))))

Por otro lado, un día Martina, recomendaba unos libros comprados en "book depository" que no te cobran el envío y buscando, encontré éste que me costó 15€ y al que tenía muchas ganas de echarle un vistazo.
Os cuento: en los años 20, en Estados Unidos, se acababa de aprobar el voto femenino, estaban recuperándose de la primera guerra mundial y la moda y los gustos empezaban a cambiar. Pensad en el twist, en las chicas con el pelito corto, las fiestas como en "El Gran Gastby". Bueno, pues una revista hizo entonces una encuesta dirigida a las mujeres de los granjeros y preguntó que si tenían una hija casadera, si les gustaría que se casara con un granjero. La respuesta fue masiva y el 98% de las mujeres contestaron que sí.
Changing topics, The other day Martina recommended some books from the Book depository, which doesn't charge sending fees, and searching it I found this book I was longing to read. 
Let me tell you about it. In the twenties, in the USA, they had just decided on the right of women to vote, life was definitely changing and girls were trying new fashions and ways (think of the Great Gastby). A women's magazine made a question for farmer's wives: If you had a girl at marriage age, would you like her to marry a farmer. The response was massive and 98% of the women said yes.

 

Laurie Aaron Hird, recopiló estas cartas y diseño bloques de patchwork inspirados en ellas. Son 110 bloques diferentes que forman este precioso sampler:
Me encantaría hacerlos y creo que va a ser el propósito de año nuevo: durante el 2012 haré los bloques y a ver si lo termino.

Laurie aaron Hird, the author, brought those letters together and designed 110 blocks to match the spirit of those letters. Those blocks form this queen size sampler.
I would love to work with them and I think that is going to be one of my New Year's resolutions: In 2012 I'm going to be a "farmer´s wife". We'll see...

Besos y abrazos / Hugs and Kisses

Por fin tengo listos mis "besos y abrazos", ahora tengo que hacerle el sandwich y acolchar.

La primera vez que me enamoró este patrón fue cuando lo vi en el libro de Camille Roskelley: Simplify.

Me gusta muchísimo la elección de telas que hizo, y es que el blanco le da una limpieza... Pero yo tenía dos charm packs de la colección Giddy que tiene mucha base en beige y tonos claros y el blanco no me combinaba, así que escogí  el marrón y le da un aspecto completamente diferente

I really like her choice of fabrics. I think white gives it a crisp and clean look, but I had two Giddy charm packs which were full of beige and clear colors. White didn't appeal to me and that's why I chose brown, which creates a totally different effect

 Para la trasera voy a usar varios fat quarters y voy a "intentar" acolcharlo como ella. ¡Veremos!

For the backing I'm using several fat quarters and I'll "try" to quilt it like her. We'll see!

En los videos del Missouri Star Quilt Co. también podéis encontrar el tutorial de este bloque, como siempre muy bien explicado. Y otro que llaman el Serendipity quilt, porque de lo que sobra de las esquinas sacan molinillos para hacer otro quilt. Y esa idea fue la que seguí: De los restos de los bloques conseguí este montón de molinillos que esperan a ser montados. ¡A esto se le llama ahorrar!

On the Missouri Star Quilt Co youtube videos, you can find a very well explained tutorial for this block. Also, I recommend another one which they call the Serendipity quilt because from the trimmed corners they get the pinwheels to form another block. And that is certaily "serendipitious"! I copied their idea and now I have a stack of pinwheels ready to be assembled.
